Be ye constant: St David & simplicity
“Brothers be ye constant.” St David’s last words to his disciples
Today is St. David’s Day. Not as well known as St Patrick, he is the patron saint of Wales. It always amuses me the way people celebrate Patrick. He was a monk, monks don’t do falling over drunk, so I’m almost glad that David slides by unnoticed because I think he would have been mortified to be remembered in this way. Miracles aside, while both saints brought Christianity to the masses in their respective countries, what attracts me is that they were both ascetics. Regardless of your religious leanings, as parents I think there is a lot we can learn from David.

"Be joyful, and keep your faith and your creed, and do the little things that you have seen me do and heard about. And as for me, I will walk the path that our fathers have trod before us.”
Whatever you believe, making sure those beliefs and values are seen and felt by constantly doing little things to breathe life into them is the foundation of parenting. That is what is likely to live on after you.
